Safety-Signal Hypothesis
A hypothesis is a guess that has agreed to be tested. Safety-Signal Hypothesis is a guess worth the experiment.
Whether the hypothesis is finally true matters less than what it teaches you to notice. Good hypotheses are like good questions — they rearrange the furniture of the mind even when they are wrong.
What this concept offers is a pause — one extra beat between what happens and what you do about it. Civilisation, someone said, is measured in that beat.
Watch a master carpenter teach an apprentice. He does not lecture; he lets the boy hold the wrong end of the saw until the wood itself becomes the teacher.
Learning is the one wealth that survives every partition of fortune. Keep the name. Use the pause it gives you. That is the entire homework.
